Workshop on "Academic Writing and Publishing"
Today ,I have attended Insightful Workshop on "Academic Writing and Publishing" by Dr Sathyaraj Venkatesan ,Professor of English, Department of Humanities and Social Science , (NIT Trichy). This session was very useful and it has given fresh and new perspectives, I have learnt about the importance of Writing,Research and crucial role of Publications in the current scenario especially in the AI generation.
Firstly I was wondered, When he says "Teaching is a Ever Expanding Roles", it emphasis that Teaching is not just teach the concept with the passion to students like traditional way as it needs multiple roles to do simultaneously such as Research writing, Innovator mentor ship , supervision, administration, public engagement and Entrepreneurial Roles which is mandatory to achieve state of the Art in higher education,as it changes dramatically and so rapidly towards a managerial Outlook.
Secondly, He has thrown light on the importance of research in teaching career, "Research is not a choice, Research is the way forward " and "Writing is your survival gear "These phrases emphasize the need of writing and research which moulds our thoughts to find something new in existing concept and also you may wonder how humanities' research papers created impact factor on community because we consider science stream's research has the power to influence or create impact factor on the community but it is not true when we try to research our humanities field in the Transdisciplinary lens.
Thirdly,We are familiar with Formalism, New criticism, Psycho analytic criticism, Marxist criticism, Structuralism, Post Structuralism, New Historicism, Cultural Materialism, Ethnic studies , Gender studies, Post colonialism and Archetypal criticism, These areas of research has been popularized by many researchers, When we think about our present demand or development if education it is not enough to focus on only main discipline of our stream as I mentioned earlier we need to explore our research methods into Transdisciplinary way , it helps to create impact in all fields rather than only literature perspective.
Fourthly, The session was about "New trends in Humanities" , He talked about different fields of studies which is need to be research ,such as Digital humanities, Health humanities, Climate studies, Anthropocene/Plant humanities, Queer studies, Visual studies (Comics/Tv studies)Post humanism/Transhumanism, Urban studies, Migration, Refugee, Post racial studies, Bio Linguistics/Genetics and Language, Law and literature.
I was excited when I learnt those new fields of studies at the same time I was anxious about the application of those things in practical research, Even our discussion about new trends on humanities was quite vast which includes Natural language processing and AI , Cognitive linguistics/memory studies, Animal studies,/Veterinary humanities, Disability studies, Trauma studies, Post colonial native studies, Men /Masculinity, Globalization studies, Gerontology /Age studies, Death/Dying and bereavement studies, Human rights and literature, Energy humanities/Petri studies/Energy future, Post truth studies, Cognitive poetics (Combine linguistic and psychology), Cultural Ethnography /Literary Anthropology, Translation studies, Forensic linguistics, Culinary/Food studies, Blue humanities, History of book /Archive, Folklore and Mythology studies, Game /Animation studies, Bioregional studies, Eco Spatial studies. This depicts literature/Humanities is a broad subject to learn and to explore.
Finally I feel, When you Read my blog you might be surprised by knowing these many fields of studies which you can explore for your research and also it helps to analyse your field of interest,I have learnt so many other things regarding "Publishing " and important books to refer Which I will be covering on my next blog definitely that would be very useful for you.
